What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K gold?

24K gold is 99.9% pure and used for coins and bars. 22K gold (91.6% pure) is the standard for jewellery in India. 18K gold (75% pure) is used for stone-studded and diamond jewellery.

How is the gold price in India calculated?

It starts from the international spot price (USD per troy ounce), converted to rupees at the live USD/INR rate, then adds import duty and 3% GST. Jewellers add making charges on top.

Why do gold rates differ between cities and jewellers?

Local taxes, transport costs, jeweller margins and making charges vary, so the final price at a shop can be slightly higher than the indicative rate shown here.
